Hip-hop, as we see today is a broad category that includes a wide range of old and new styles of urban dance. The old styles that were created in the 1970s, including Uprock, break and funk styles. In its primitive form, started to break the deepening of James Brown "Good Foot" dance, which was released in 1972. Breaking the time was not primarily oriented to the ground as we see today, it started as toprock made up. In 1973, DJ Kool Herc invented the breakbeat. A breakbeat is a rhythmic musical interlude of a song that was looped over and over again to extend the instrumental solo. Kool Herc was to allow the dancers who attended his parties to show their skills.

B-boy and b-girl is an acronym for a "break-boy" and a "break-girl", dance b-boys/b-girls to break the record. The second effect was toprock uprock. Uprock toprock similar but is more aggressive, and is intended to show fight. Unlike toprock, uprock failed to crack jokes. The song was a good start finish. Also, Uprocking done with partners, but each in turn to break dance. It also affects the martial arts and gymnastics, went from being a pure toprock break dance style just yet oriented to the floor.

Funk styles refer to different styles of street dance created in California in the 1970s that were danced to funk music. These styles include  roboting, bopping, hitting, locking, bustin', popping, electric boogaloo, strutting, sac-ing, dime-stopping, etc. Similar to breaking,James Brown also had a major impact on boogaloo dance style. Sat one of the inspirations for the creation of Solomon was James Brown Dance Boogaloo "popcorn" and the name of the dance was taken by the title of James Brown's song "Do the Boogaloo." The most popular and widely practiced styles are funk and pop locking. The blockade is the oldest of the two and was created by Don Campbell in the 1960's. burst was created by Sam Solomon at the 1970. The year 1980 brought the wrong style media as "breakdancing" / "breakdance" label to cause confusion about its origin.
